The Acer liquid runs on Android version 1.6 otherwise known as Android Donut. Donut features many new features like a multi-lingual speech synthesis engine called Pico. It allows any Android application to "speak" a string of text with an accent that matches the language. There is also an upgraded search framework that provides a quick, effective, and consistent way for users to search across multiple sources—such as browser bookmarks & history, contacts, and the web—directly from the home screen. In respect of the camera, an updated user interface provides an integrated camera, camcorder, and gallery experience. Users can quickly toggle between still and video capture modes. Additionally, the gallery enables users to select multiple photos for deletion. Android 1.6 also provides a much faster camera experience. Compared to the previous release, launching the camera is now 39% faster, and there is a 28% improvement in the time from completing one shot to the next.

Android 2.1 Update – Treat yourself to an Eclair

Available now for the Acer Liquid A1 is the Android Eclair 2.1 update. With the Eclair update your Acer Liquid A1 will benefit from features like a brand new photo gallery, an updated address book which pulls contacts from many sources including Facebook, increased number of home screens allowing more room for your favourite apps, a revamped app launcher and access to hundreds of more apps only compatible with Android 2.1.
