Re the text message situation, it will happen when you daughter uses the "keyboard" option and chooses a word with an apostrophe (when prompted by the device as you type in the word). I've not found any way around this and have only got past it by writing, for instance, "do not" instead of "don't". This is very tedious I know but that's how it seems to be.
I don't htink you can delete items from the active menu - but would suggest a contact into O2 to determine for good.
Email, depends on what type she is using? Pop3 etc, but in the manual there should be an email section!
Battery life depends on usage so it depends how heavily she phones, writes text messages etc, but its OK for at least one day at reasonably heavy usage.
