Cannot connect to my wireless LAN on a XDA Mini

Web browsing seems to be at dial-up speed, amd sometimes it seems to default to GPRS, even when it has detected the LAN. Anyone know why this is?

Also, it always seems to be trying to get a connection (arrows pointing to, and away from WiFi icon). Can I stop it trying to connect to other networks, so I can be sure it has connected to mine?

Also, can you stop IE downloading images, to speed things up?
