02 xda IIs SMS/ email

I have an 02 xdaIIs, however for some reason i cannot send or receive emails, clicking the icon on the desktop no response.
I would be very grateful for advise or otherwise..

Have you got GPRS activated on your SIM card? Check with o2

Yes GPRS is active, as i can surf the net through it, which is on the system not the SIM card.

It looks like i'll have to re-flash the memory, risky but i'll give it a go??
