Default XDA Orbit won't sync with laptop

Hi All..

I'm new to the forums, so firstly, let me say 'Hi' :-)

Okay... I have had my XDA Orbit for a while now, and I'm very impressed with it. It used to work on my old computer (using an older version of ActiveSyn) just perfectly.

I have recently bought a new laptop, and had to download the latest edition of ActiveSync (as I've lost the CD that came with my phone).

I can explore my Phone using Windows File Explorer but I can't sync/connect my phone with the computer. It says "Retrieving settings" and always crashes at this point.

Any ideas on how I can fix this problem?

I've tried uninstalling ActiveSync and re-installing, I've tried different USB cables and different USB ports.

Any other ideas?

Many thanks,
Amnesia

Thanks for that. But I've already tried this (yesterday) and it still doesn't work.

My Ipaq sometimes does this. All you can do is disconnect and keep trying.

Not been brave enough yet to try Vista's version.....

It's okay, I have to just disable my Firewall for a couple of minutes (i disconnect from the internet so it's safe).

On the PDA when you press start then settings and go to the connections tab.

Is there an option for USB to PC?

If so try click on and change the tick box for enable advanced network functionality to see if that makes any difference.

This caused problems with my device on XP but works much faster on Vista.

I'd also check the webiste for your firewall to see if there are any workarounds.

Follow the help guide on activesync website for how to correctly set up your firewall to work with activesync.
