Default Help please - XDA Orbit

Hi all, new to the forum but already in need of help!

I have an o2 xda orbit and yesterday I downloaded windows mobile 6 onto it. Because I new this would delete all of my personal data (including, it seemed, stuff that ActiveSync wouldn't back up) I used a program called SPB backup (v.1.6.1) to backup my phone first - this created an .exe file on my memory card to restore the data and programs after the new o/s was installed.

I installed wm6 fine, then ran the .exe file and it appeared to work, and said that the pda would need to restart. But on restarting, it freezes - it gets as far as the green windows start screen, then the voulme controls and mouse pointer appear on the screen for no reason, and it won't go any further - the mouse pointer also won't move, incidentally. I have tried soft resetting, but it just goes back to this screen again. If I hard reset, I just get four coloured bars with the o/s version diplayed, and it doesn't go any further than this.

I suspect the problem is that the .exe file has corrupted part of wm6 by installing incompatible files, but I don't know how to fix it - ActiveSync no longer recognises the device when it's connected to my PC, and neither hard nor soft resets seem to work (just to make sure, I'm holding down the power and voice call buttons either side of the phone before using the stylus to press the resets button - that's the right way to hard reset isn't it?)

Any help offered would be much appreciated as I need the phone for the sat nav for a long journey tomorrow!!!

Cheers

Sounds like your pressing the wrong buttons

To do a Hard Reset :-

Press both soft keys (these are the keys with straight lines next to the green and red phone keys) and insert stylus into soft reset button and press.

Release the soft reset button and keep pressing the soft keys.

When the "This operation will delete all your personal data, to manufacturer default" appears on screen.

Press Green call button to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.
