SMS complete backup

Hello,

I have an O2 Atom and made many folders and subfolders in my Inbox/Sent directories in order to sort my thousands of messages.
I wish to backup and don't know how, when my phone is connected to my PC I can browse the files but I don't know which one it is I should copy. Is it a database? multiple files? There is surely a way to backup those files.
Anyone? It's important please. Thanks.
