Don't suppose you paid him through Paypal or some other company that offers insurance did you?? If so, they may be able to help.
Also, if you paid with credit card, they should offer some sort of protection against this as well.
If you paid via bank transfer or cash / cheque, I don't really know (cant see the cozzers doing much about it).
