With the Mio168 you do need the aerial flipped up 90 degrees to the unit.

Start the GPS and configure to Other NMEA, Baud Rate 4800 on SP2,

Go outside and wait for a lock. First lock could take 20 minutes or more, I've seen some people say first lock took 45 minutes.

Future lock-ons will be faster, anything from a couple of minutes up to maybe 10 according to when you last used it.

Also, if your car has an athermic windscreen, make sure you stand outside the car until you have a lock before setting up inside.
