I've just had the same thing happen to my iPaq 2200, it's been flawless since I've had it (over 3 years old I think) and unfortunately I let the battery die last week.
No problem I thought, I'll just restore using the active sync backup which is on my laptop .. hahahaha what a joke, active sync wouldn't recognise the file. To say I was annoyed is an understatement!
I've now got to install all my apps again which I'm almost thinking, is it really worth it?
