If the files are the wrong format media player wont play them it wont matter how there transferred.

You could try a different player like pocket tv or pmp player. They can play formats that media player can't.

Theres lot of video converter around as well that will output in a format you can use.

I think there must be some sort of conversion goes on to change the format to something mobile can read, similar to office documents.

Maybe if I knew the file type I could download some conversion software and try that.
