Here is the procedure for setting up an IPAQ H5550 (and maybe some other IPAQ's) to use GPRS on a Nokia 6230 (and probably other phones) on t-mobile via Bluetooth (what a mouthful techno jargon).

First, make sure you can connect to the Internet from just the mobile. Once this is confirmed, you'll need to pair your IPAQ with your phone.

You then need to create a new connection (can be done before of after pairing). Make sure you run the wizard first. These are the settings:-

Connection name: Anything you like
Select a modem: Bluetooth Dialup modem
Access number: *99#
Username: user
Password: pass
Domain: Leave blank
Click Advanced
Baud rate: 57600
Untick "Wait for dial tone"
Extra dial-string: +cgdcont=1,"ip","general.t-mobile.uk"
Leave ticked "Cancel if not connected in 120 seconds

Once this is done, all you need to do in future is make sure Bluetooth is activated. Any type of attempt to access the internet will activate the GPRS connection via your phone. Unless bluetooth is off and wifi is on. Traffic updates will still happen via WIFI with no problem.

Bring on G3 is all I can say. Actually, I did enquire with three (phone network) to ask if their phones can be used as internet gateways for this kind of application. Guess what? No chance. They've restricted this. Shame, because that would have been the fastest and most cost effective method. Now that Orange are bringing out a G3 data service, perhaps there will be some competition with vodaphone and get those prices down.
