Navigator 2006

Anyone using the new AA navigator 2006?

How does it compare with tomtom etc, any better.

I had previously run TomTom3, but changed to AANavigator 2006 this weekend (mainly because of the Ireland maps - which look to be very good). I have a PDA and blutooth GPS so bought sofware only

I have problems with it not recognising my Bluetooth GPS, have had to use an old CF GPS to get working for now.

On the plus side the big configurable info icons at the bottom are great, very easy to see arrival time etc. Postcode location is very accurate.

On the down side, very slow to recalculate, 3D mapping is ver poor compared to TomTom which i could just glance at. The choice of colours and 'thin' roads mean you have to stare at it to work out where you are going.

On balance (assuming I can sort the issue of bluetooth) TomTom is a much better product, if they did full maps of Ireland I'd still have it. AANavigator does the job and is good value for money.

Thanks for that, the main reason i was looking to change was the maps seriously need updating in tomtom, i just had a look at the new destinator 2006 and it seems to have very updated maps, a new underpass was built near me and finished just before christmas and it is showing on the map.

I think i might wait for the tomtom v6, dont think it will be long now and hopefully it will be updated.

The plus services are a great leap forward, but TomTom really need a sub service to update maps as they get them.

It's long been a grip of many TT5 user, and the vast majority on this and other forums (being heavy users) WOULD be willing to pay a, obv modest, fee to ensure they have the most up to date maps possible.

Maybe Martin or Charlie know if this is coming (prob TT6 only), or maybe could suggest it to the right people at TT.

They were supposed to do on there their Plus service but it never really worked out that way. They might not feel its cost effective since if they update maps twice a year they've just doubled their costs from teleatlas. Which would probably put the price up for upgrades. I know its been suggested to them already but they havent said anything to us about more regular updates.

Nav 6 should be July hopefully.


I know the new destinator uses Navteq Q1 2006 release so it should be miles ahead in some areas. Havent had a chance to had a good look at the program yet though.
