Pressing and holding the power button enables and disables the backlight. Do you have it set to turn off in your power settings?

Got a similar problem on a Dell Axim 30 624. Tapping the screen doesn't seem to get the backlight working. Only works if i press any one of the buttons. Tried soft-reset twice but don't make a difference.

Check the backlight settings, should have a setting for coming on when the screen is tapped.

Checked the Settings and everything is ticked. What I normally do is press the power button once to turn off the backlight. Does this turn the PDA off completely or will it still respond to the tapping on the screen?
