Default evbruntime.htm

I have just acquired a Dell Axim X3, and loaded Pocket Streets and the drivers for my Rikaline 6010 GPS receiver, the final part of which asks that you open the drivers folder to check the com port, when I did this I got the message "the application you have launched requires microsoft eMbedded visual basic runtime to be installed", and in the File: window above it had //\windows\evbruntime.htm, I searched under "evbruntime.htm" and was directed to a microsoft site which said I had to download the Zip file msvbppc.arm.cab. I downloaded it onto my laptop (I.E. won't open on the Axim, no runtime file etc). I plonked the zip file into ActiveSync where it was invisible; I unzipped and "Sync" the resultant 34 files, which were visible at the laptop end, but invisible in the PPC and didn't appear to do anything. Can you unzip a file in the PPC? If they transfer as individual files like documents, how would the PPC know what to do with them? How would I know what to do with them?!! I really need someone to take me through this in Janet and John fashion, as there's clearly something I'm missing (I'm a founder member of DENSA) Help!

Welcome to our forums.
You should be able to transfer the .cab file onto your DELL and run it from there.
Have you tried this?

Charlie,

That's what I don't understand, what do I transfer, do I transfer the file without unzipping it; I tried that and couldn't see it to do anything with it, and could I have unzipped it anyway? Do I transfer all 37 or so files that it unzips into, and if so, how do I keep them separate from my Word files & how do I know where they are after I've transferred them, I tried that and couldn't see them. I know I'm being thick, but there's clearly something I'm missing.

If someone had said that you have to look for the cab file using file explorer I would have got there quicker - it's alright for you hyper intelligent mega beings, you knew that, and assumed it is obvious to we idiots. Still I seem to have got there in the end. Now all I have to do is to get the PPC to aknowledge the presence of the GPS receiver; in typical fashion I am told to go to "UsbTools" and check if the port name is COM1, when I click on UsbTools, I just get a front page which says "USB Tools Rikaline" with no indication of what to do, no check box, no way of getting in, no nothing, Ho Hum, here we go again. I'm reluctant to uninstall/reinstall the program lest I lose evbruntime again.

It took me a long time to figure out this issue, also! Finally, I tried using the Active Sync "Explore" and got the zipped file to paste in the My Documents folder. (Don't unzip it.) Then I went to the mobile device and tapped on the zipped file, which automatically unzipped and distributed the files where they needed to go. Hope this helps!
