cant connect to net on x50

please help .. ive only had my x50 for a few days now so pretty much a noob. ive connected to my network which is a d-link g640t wireless and ive got a speed stream ss2521 wireless compact flash card. but every time i try to connect i cant get on line, but i can access my network. wifi companion can ping www.socketcom.com but i cant access the net im really baffled so any help would be really nice thanks a million ..
