Default retrieving/sending e-mail

I have had my Axim X51 for about a year now and have not managed to set it up to send e-mails via my Orange/Freeserve pop account. It will receive ok but not send.

Any clues?

Thanks

You need to enable SMTP authorisation using your logon details for the account(s).

All UK ISPs have needed this for some time, and it's in there getting started guides

I think that I have done this when setting up the account on the PDA.

incoming mail: pop.wanadoo.co.uk

outgoing mail: smtp.orange.co.uk

Is there something else?

Ah, Now I see your issue.

You are trying to recieve on one account, yet send out going mail on another. This will be problematic, as you'll need to enable SMTP authorisation to use the outgoing server - which is nigh impossible.

You also have the issue when replying to mail on the wanadoo account as it will want to send it from that account, and Orange wont let it!

The only option on the PDA is to select a mail provider and stick with it, or set up 2 seperate accounts 1 for wanadoo, and one for Orange. As Wanadoo is Orange now, why not simply set pop to pop.orange.net and SMTP.orange.net, enable SMTP auth and you should be fine.

I have tried this and I am now convinced that this a problem associated with my mobile phone. I use my mobile as a modem when out of office. It is a Samsung D900 on Vodafone. When connecting to my home network via WLAN utility send and receive works fine. When I connect to my phone via bluetooth it will not send. I have followed the vodafone set up instructions but there must be something that is not quite right within the phone set up.

Any ideas?

Assuming your home ISP is Orange, then you must use authenticated SMTP to send you mail when using your mobile - as I've said previously.

Not sure how I can make it any clearer to you.

If your using the phone as a modem to send/ receive email, you'll need to be need to make sure that your using the correct servers. For Vodafone you need to be using send.vodafone.net
