Sorry, if you have a look @ http://www.holux.com.tw/Temp%20web/AR-10.html .
Sorry it's not the best site since it's been translated from Taiwanese to English but if you look @ the picture on the left you will see the Active Antennae goes outside the vehicle to pick up the GPS signal and transfers it inside to the Radiation Antennae which radiates the signal inside the car to be picked up by your BT receiver. Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the help, just to clarify

The bt reciever picks up the signal form the arial so no need for a connection between these two ?

The bt reviever is picking up the signal so can be mounted out of the way, say in the glove box ?

First part is correct, personally I haven't tried the second but can't see a reason why it wouldn't work.

Im sure the rear window on the A3 is not heat reflective

You can tap in the 12v feed to your stereo. Just remember to fuse it.
