The cable i have at the moment looks as though it should be powered of a mount, can i just cut of the end a wire up +ive and -ive, also what kind of fuse ?

Should be OK, is it the cable with the RJ11 (telephone style) plug on it?

yes it's the rj11 cable, what kind of fuse should i use ? ie what rating

Still confused.

will a cradle for the tomtom bluetooth reciever ever become available, is what i'm doing safe ?

They don't do them any more mac1...they used to be supplied as part of the kit with TomTom Navigator2 but they stopped supplying them when Navigator3 was released in March. It is safe and you should use the same type of fuse thats on your stereo line.
