Unhappy TOM TOM Accuracy

Recently my bluetooth tom tom GPS receiver stopped working. I used it, switched it off and when i switched it back on the bluetooth part and light was not working although the receiving side seems to be OK.

Regardless i purchased a new GPS bluetooth receiver and conection and response to satelites seems to be far better than Tomtom, but there seems to be around 20 to 40 metres discrepancy between actual position and where the GPS thinks i am. last week in France i had major problems and missed some roads. In the UK street being so close together have obvious problems.

Can the two items be calibrated to make the positioning compatable? Software is Tomtom 2 and i am using the latest update of the GPS software.

Welcome to our forums.
To my knowledge there is no way for the average user to change the calibration of a GPS receiver if it can be done at all.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Maybe if calibration is not possible then maybe something to improve the positioning awareness of the GPS. I am sure someone must have experienced similar issues. Also equipment wise the Tomtom software is running in an IPAQ 3970 and has no glitches or operating bugs and the new GPS bluetooth device is a Pretec mini GPS. Again connecting is super quick, reliable and i get a stronger signal than with the Tomtom bluetooth.

Was your TomTom receiver one of the original models from earlier in the year?

It was about 14 month old. I also had an idea driving home from work, maybe on the PDA i have selected the incorrect chip in the GPS settings. Maybe this could be a problem with driver compatability. I checked and the accuracy seems to be 18 to 22 yards out. I will try changing the chip selection and see what happens.

Settings should be TomTom Wireless GPS and Bluetooth Serial Port COM8 or 5.

Port is port 8, i reinstalled the GPS and tom tom navigator software and accuracy is still approx 18 yards out. The settings are SysOnChip Seriel GPS as this is the chip in the Pretec device. I changed this to the other Syson setting and still no good. I then installed the Pretec satviewer and accuracy is still out.

I will now try what you said and change the settings to Tomtom Wireless GPS even though it is Pretec and see if it makes a difference. If not i will have to shut my eyes and turn off 18 yards later than it tells me when in foreign lands.

I have a wired Tom Tom 3, connected to my Ipaq 3950, and find it accurate to within 6 feet. I used it all the time on my 2500 ml tour of France this summer; invaluable!!.
