Default GPS Navigation and Speed Camera Detector

I just changed my iPAQ 3630 into a 3970 to use it for portable (various cars and handheld) GPS Navigation.

I am currently torn between the NAVMAN 4400 and the TomTom Navigator 2 bluetooth. I was wondering if anyone is currently using their GPS PocketPC to detect Speed Cameras and if so, what software and hardware are you using... Also, which do people recommend between tomtom and navman and do they crash.. how often.. how accurate is the visual and voice guidance??

All help much appriciated.

I use an IPAQ 3950 with an expansion jacket and a 256mb CF card. The software is TomTom Navigator 2.

I have the UK Speed Camera database installed and have covered over 6,000 miles since getting Sat Nav. In this time the software only missed 2 - yes 2 - cameras!.

The software has never crashed, nor has it ever given me a dodgy direction. It negotiated several tricky town centre one way systems with ease and is an absolute joy to use.

The accuracy is phenomenal and the voice commands are so good you do not actually need to look at the screen at all!

Overall a fabulous product that has saved me time and money. Recommended.

Regards,

G

Oh that speed camera software is great! Saved me at least 6 points so far....

Anyways, if you want speed camera info and navigation at the same time, only TomTom offers this.

If you want Navman though (better map data and European maps too bundled) youll need to run a separate system lik the Origin B2. Its database is the best I have seen, so worth every penny - and thats a lot of pennies!

I'm trying to work out whether to go for a dedicated speedtrap detector or a PDA with GPS and a speed trap database. However, I'm a bit confused about where you get the speed trap database for the TomTom software from and how much it costs, both initially and as an ongoing subscription. Can anyone enlighten me, perhaps with some web links as well? Cheers.

I have an Ipaq 3970, and am thinking about buying a Road Angel GPS speed trap detector. I assume that if I do, I can also then export the position signal for SatNav.

Has anyone already done this?

What software & hardware/connectors will I need?

Many thanks for any useful info or advice.

SB
