I've been mulling over buying a GPS for a while and I have a rough idea of the products now but having never owned one before and I would value any advice you guys can throw my way

I have a couple of requirements though that are making picking a solution alittle difficult.
Firstly I was a device that will give me a driving directions. I own an 4150 series Ipaq so the Navman 4410 looks pretty good to me. The long battery life of the unit greatly appeals. However I also would like a device that I can use while walking/hiking for directional info/location and that sort of stuff (also for use outside the UK). Now from what I can gather the Navman just isnt going to be much good for that. It may be that the best solution is 2 different gps devices but I want to avoid that if possible. I believe there are a number of 3rd party applications that you can use with navman and tomtom style gps & pda's so perhaps one of these would be the answer.
Any advice please oh gps guru's?
