Hi Folks, Brand new to this forum but been reading and learning for the last week or so but can't find the answer. I am going to buy a PDA because I love toys and I need it for work. I want to use it as a GPS system as well but it has to be portable enought that when I get out of the car I just grab it and take it with me allowing me to use GPS on foot. When in the car I would like to pop it onto a cradle without any wires and it will still work for a short time before I need to charge it up.
Am I right in thinking I would need 1. A PDA. 2. Software ie Tom Tom. 3. A GPS reciever.
If so I am looking at the IPAQ 5550, Tom Tom for the software but the GPS part is the one I am confused about. I need it to be part of the PDA so I can walk on foot (probably only for about an hour at the most) but still use it as I need to keep my colleagues aware of my location in case I get into trouble.
I believe there are ones that pop into SD/compact flash slots(sorry don't know the technical term for them) on the PDA. I have seen them on Haicom.com. Are they any good, which ones are the best and why?
If I am totally way on on all this and need putting straight I apologise now, feel free to enlighten me.
Any feed back welcomed.
Thanks in advance

Mal if your looking at the 5550, i would recommend Navman Sleeve based GPS like the 3450. If you have a look here http://www.totalpda.co.uk/product4392_21.aspx Due to it being a sleeve based system this makes i mobile enough for you to take out the car etc.

Cheers Stevie. I had a look and ran the demo. It is small which would suit but I notice it is not 3D and it does not do postcodes, which would be handy. I looked at http://www.emtac.com/products/receiv...sheet_jaq.html Have you any thoughts on this or any other recommendations that would offer 3D/postcodes?

If you have a look at the new navman software, have a look at http://www.navman-mobile.com/news.php?article=20
