Default Newbie Question. TOM TOM GO Versus NAV

Hi All,
Sorry if this has already been posted.
I am looking to purchase Sat Nav for my Golf. I have been looking at the Pioneer AVIC X1,Alpine stuff e.t.c but have been told the Tom Tom wins hands down. Would i be better going for the P.D.A. Version or the total in car Tom Tom Go.
I do prefer the screen size of the P.D.A but what are the advantages /disadvantages of both. I already own a laptop so would not really require all of the functions of the P.D.A. Although email on the go would be nice. Basically what i am after is a pro/con. Is there stuff that the Tom Tom Go version can do over the Navigator. What would i be better buying. Do i pay up to £400 for Tom Tom go or do i pay a hundred or so pound less for the P.D.A. What is the difference?
Any help would be much Appreciated.
Thanks.
