Hi,

I have just taken the plunge and decided to get a PDA based sat nav system for my car.

I’ve bought a PDA from ebay yesterday, which should hopefully arrive soon. I went for an IPAQ H5500, which has built in Bluetooth.

I am now looking for a Bluetooth GPS receiver, and was looking for some help.

I want a receiver which takes normal batteries, the reason for this is that I’ve heard that these things work from inside the glove box and if this is true I’d like to leave mine in the pockets of the seats, hidden away.

Does anyone know of any receivers which take normal batteries?

I’ve also been looking at Brodit mounts, they do one for my car’s vent which looks very neat and tidy, any one have any experience with these?

The last thing I wanted to ask was about the software, I’ve heard tomtom is the best, and also provides speed camera info, will this speed camera facility work with any GPS receiver I buy?

I know I’m asking a lot here, but if anyone can help, would be well appreciated.

Taz.

Welcome to our forums.
The only receiver I know of is the Navman 44XX series Bluetooth receiver. It takes AAA batteries. You can use most receivers froma concealled location but it is best to have it in clear view of the sky. Also, any receiver will will work with the speed cams for TomTom.

Angry hP RZ 1710

i SEE YOU HAVE BOUGHT A HP PACKARD POCKET PC

AS TH RZ1710

DOESNT SUPPORT THIS, BUT HOPEFULLY YOURS DOES THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW THIS IS WHY I RESPONDED TO YOUR THREAD

The reason of the cut-down is the internal memory on a hp rz1710.
We do not have any updates to make features as traffic camera database and postal code possible.
The only reason why the 1710 navigation is a cut down version is because 1710 is a very
limited PDA and TomTom produced a version especially for 1710.
With best regards,
TomTom support team
