Sat Nav - Can I use it in Canada and UK?

Hiya,

I've not got a sat nav device, but thinking of hiring a car in Canada when we go for a family holiday in July. Sat Nav would be the most obvious optional extra when hiring abroad, but nobody offers it (from what I can see).

So, I wondered if I could buy one here for use in a selection of a cars, and be able to take it to Canada for the 2 weeks? Or would it be a bit expensive? Or even not possible?

As you can probably tell, I know NOTHING about sat nav.

I think it'd be cheaper/easier to get it in your hire car over there. Hertz offer satnav and I'm sure most other largish hire companies offer it also. Check them out before you go.
