map export tool?

i have medion navigator 4.2 0n my hp ipaq 1710 and pc works ok in a fashion but has everone says internal memory is a problem. question 1 is i have to load the whole of the uk map on to the memory card i guess when sat nav is running it has to use the full 220mb map to run therefor causing the loss of memory during use?
question 2 does anyone know should medion navigater map export tool have a map create button in it to save cropped maps? mine does not so hence i have to load all the map. question 3 does anyone know does tom tom come with exporting tool that you can carry this out? does it work on other makes of map? or can i get free or purhase map export tool to do this?

1) The loss of memory is because the 1710 only has 25MB of memory and probably requires more to run the Medion software. its not related to the size of the map on your SD card.
2) I have no idea
3) TomTom has smaller map areas that are already supplied on the setup CD so there is no need to crop/export.
