Red face Volvo Sat Nav DVD req'd

Hi, by way of an introduction, I'm a photographer driving a Volvo XC70 (bought S/H in Nov 04) this car came with Sat Nav (what did I do without it!!) the map DVD is a 2003 version and I would like to update, now Volvo can supply but I think £285 for a DVD is a little bit pricey.

Can anyone help pointing me to another DVD supplyer, I believe the inbuilt unit is made by 'Becker'.

Any help would be great,

Thanks, John.

Welcome to our forums.
You will only be able to get the DVD from a Volvo dealer and they will all likely charge you the same.

Hi, likewise I have an XC70 of about the same age, I complained to Volvo Customer Services about the price of an upgrade (in quite strong terms) and was offered a £50 voucher off the purchase price. They also mentioned that the new realese due 20/6 includes some kind of traffic info system and suggested that I wait to get the upgrade (they did not know the price).. still a rip off but slightly more interesting now.

Hi, Thanks for the info, the traffic information is interesting (real time speed??, camera sites??) I will check the price with my local dealer after 20/6.

Thanks again.

Hi John, I also have this upgrade on order - I spoke with Volvo today who advised that there was a recall on the DVD and that they were expecting it to be re-issued around the 11th of July (originally due 20th June & then the 28th June) - the annoying thing is I am on holiday next week for 3 weeks driving around Scandinavia and wanted the latest disc for this very purpose. I think I will investigate other satnav systems next time around.

Hi, just rec'd my 2005 3 DVD pack, eastern europe, southern europe and eastern europe (miss-quote on north America) nothing too exciting on RTI but hopefully updated maps, the price was (special Volvo offer) £160.

I don't think it will come close to 'Tom-Tom'

John.

John.
How did you get the special offer price from a local dealer or Volvo direct?

I have an XC70 (I'm in the UK) and I had the upgrade when I bought new discs.

The traffic info system provides live information on traffic jams and offers you the option of an avoiding route. I've found it to be worthwhile.

I don't have mine working at the mo, tho. The system has a a fault and it says it can't read the dvd unit. A clean hasn't cured it. The volvo dealer isn't sure which part to order at the moment as its the older unit with a new upgrade and says it could be £150 or....£450(!) to fix.
