Cool buying first GPS

I am looking for a system that works in my car, (plain glass screen), and only GPS in use.
I had bought 3 in the past 2 weeks but they where faulty; i.e. Navman iCN 510 x 2, Mio 269 x 1. I got my money back eventually, (not with out a fight)
Anyway I have been looking around, but it is difficult until I found 'TOTAL GPS' and others so that I can ask many questions on the subject. ( if the knowedge was a mile high then mine is only an inch), at the moment.
I have read the searches leading down to 'Tom Tom GO 500' and I think this will do what I want. But before I buy I am looking for expert advice. I know that anything said is not 'tablet of stone'.
I have read reviews on the following;
StreetPilot, Navman, Garmin.
One more thing, Has there been any books written on the subject or what magazines covers the same.

I wouldn't call myself an expert on the subject but do own a tomtom navigator 5 on the pda. If you only want it for sat nav, the tomtom GO is by a long shot the market leader (i'm sure that other people will argue / agree with this).

However, for the same sort of money (maybe even cheaper), you could get the tomtom navigator 5 and a PDA which would offer you all the benefits of the satelite navigation but also get a fully functioning PDA for anything else you may require (I use mine for a diary, reminder, alarm clock and even watch movies when i am on the move). Total PDA sell both and have write ups on them.

Either way, good luck with your research and let me know what you opt for.

Sorry for the delay you sent, I told you I was on steep learning curve.
Playing around with it and was very pleased with Tom Tom GO 500. I haven't been on the road yet, (that's another story). I am interested only with GPS, alough I might be trying the 'bluetooth', as that looks interesting.
Thanks again. Is there any books or monthly mags out there? (I don't want to bother people with loads of stupid questions).
