Unhappy V70 RTI dvd satnav

I have a 2002 Volvo V70 with RTI DVD satnav system. While ignition off, daughter ejected disc and tried several times to re-insert. Having myself then switched ignition to position 1 and inserted disc (I could hear disc spinning, although not apparently fast enough)I get message on screen saying "unable to read disc", go to Volvo dealer if happens again. Any ideas what the fault could be before remortgaging house to get problem sorted? Thanks H

Welcome to our forums.
It could be that the disc has just become dirty (fingerprints, smudges etc) try cleaning with a DVD cleaning product from somewhere like HMV, Woolworths. If that doesnt help then it could be damaged, check for scratches etc. There are products available to repair scratched discs but i've never tried any but you way want to.

Hi Charlie, Thank you for your suggestion. It turns out that the head drive has a fault, hopefully to be fixed by Volvo. Regards Henry

Job now done. £400. Message to any-one out there, turn on ignition before pushing disc back in.

Although, now we are up and running I have to say my navman PIN's 3-D mapping is easier to follow by far.
