Question Ipaq hx4700

Hi Guys

Can anyone recommend what the best software is to put into the above PDA? I am a complete newbie and dont know too much about Sat Nav's.
I have been told the Tom Tom 5 bluetooth would be fine or would you recommend the cabled version?

Couple of Q's for you

Are you going to use the GPS outside the car?
Do you need traffic updates etc via mobiel phone?
Do you plan on moving from car to car?

Hi Stevie

Thanks for the quick response.

I would be using the GPS mainly in my car but would need to transfer it to my works van on some weekends.
Not too fussed about traffic updates although it would come in handy I suppose.

Hi

I have a hx4700 and I can recommend Tomtom5, the postcode look facility up is excellent and even goes down to house numbers.

There are pros and cons with bluetooth. I tried a CF GPS reciever which slots in the top of the PDA. The advantage of that is you do not need a seperate power source ... however the dissadvantage of that is it drains your pda faster but then you only need one lighter socket charger to charge both the pda and the GPS. I think the biggest pro is that you can have the reciever totaly seperate to the PDA, eg I can have it in my pocket whilst walking with the PDA.

The battery lasted a couple of hours with no power source running the CF reciever. I have just purchased a bluetooth reciever so that the pda battery will last longer. The gps reciever batteries seem to last anything from 10hours upwards anyway (and generally come with a car charger)

You should only look at recievers with SIRF III as that is the latest technology. I bought a Holux GPSlim 236 as that got good reviews as did the BT338 (both about the same price). If you went for the TomTom pack with the gps reciever it would work out a bit cheaper, I only didn't go for that as the review wasn't quite as good and I want to walk around with the GPS.

You can easily transfer between vehicles, I use a suction mount for the pda which is very secure

hope that helps

Robert

another advantage of the bluetooth is you can switch on the reciever and then the pda and while TomTom is starting up the reciever is already starting to get satelite locks
