Can I use this in the USA?

Hi

I have tt5 running on an acer n35. I bought the usa maps ready to go on holiday, then the acer connector broke! I am currently in dispute with comet about this, but when I mentioned needing it for holidays they told me uk gps units won't work in the us. I assumed gps meant global positioning so it should work worldwide.

Has anyone used their uk gps receiver in the states?

Are comet totally wrong about this?

Thanks-I was pretty sure it would work but Comet put the seed of doubt in my head! I didn't even ask if it would work, just stated I need my acer back within a week cos I'm going to the states and have bought the maps needed. They phoned me today to tell me my acer needs to go back to acer for the second time(I got it back yesterday allegedly repaired but actually still not working) and by the way don't worry about getting it back cos it won't work in the states anyway!

Now all I need to do is get the acer back from them in time for my trip
