Question HGV sat nav system

Hi everyone i'm new to this site but i hope someone can help.

I'm looking for a sat nav system to go in a truck but i would like to get other uses from it like weight and hight restrictions, live internet tracking and i would like to download the trip of an evening from a central computer when back at depot ready for the driver the next day.

Any help would be greatly apriciated.

There isnt anything that would give you all of this at the moment although tomtom are about to launch this.

www.tomtomwork.com

We are going to be the authorised dealer for this when it launched hopefully next month.

Unhappy Thanks

Thanks all
Heres my pradicument i operate large goods vehicle's the big'est being 16 foot tall and 33 feet long and is 18 tonnes.
All of which deliver windows and conservetries.

so from what i can see i need a tracking device which will keep a location of where the truck is this will reduce my insurance and give the office accurate info in case of problems.

A sat nav system would be great but will not give all warnings of restrictions.

Ah well so much for technology looks like i'm going to have to stick with old the ways for now

Thanks
I went on the tom tom site and checked out 'tom-tom work' it looks like what i need but standard sat nav's have a habbit of getting anything 7.5 ton and above into serious predicuments as any truck driver will tell you.

Just as every other truck driver i have spoken to will tell you if restrictions were taken into account all trucks will have one fitted, but you cant take short cuts through single track roads in a 18 ton, 16 foot high by 30 feet long truck.

So with that any sat nav company that puts this on the market will have a demand that will by far surpass you, I and the increasing number of public purchesing at the moment.

Most trucks operate 24 hours 7 days on muliple shifts,
We all need to know where we are going and how to get there.

Tomtom work wont have height or weight restrictions built in but I just found this on another board which looks like a good work around.

Hi Fellow Truck Driver,

Used a TTGo Classic for 2 year. Best way to route is obtain the GB Plus Maps. Go to Low Bridges.COM and pay your money for the latest low bridges. Get a 512mb SD card and copy your maps etc over to the bigger card. Erase all the POI you can off the system. Dowload the speed camera databases from Global Positioning systems. Add all the grouped POI such as main Supermarkets eg tescos Asda etc. Contact UK fuels for all the bunker fuels locations in OV2 format. Add all the B&Q locations and schools.

Work out the height of your truck eg 14'9"and disable all bridges above that height. Set Bell to sound on approach to any camera or low bridge.

Set the TTG to navigate at either fastest route if you mainly do motorway work or restricted Speed if you do a lot of town stuff. If your tomtom does not show a particular street or postcode. I just ring my customer and as if there is a supermarket or school nearby and zoom into that. Usualy gets me within a few hundred yards.

I also have a list of all the main truck stops in OV2 format which is quite useful and I also got the external arial as its very easy to have no sat signal in London and some major cities. The external one does work just slap it on the roof and no more problems.

I also try to add any large industrial estates such as Magna Park as a favourite. As often you will get addresses such as ASDA, Unit 2 Magna Park. Its easy to find as a favourite rather than looking up the street which quite often does not exist even on the new map.

210,272km on my TT and counting.

Peter

Dont you tend to have problems in trucks only if you navigate via shortest route, in my car if i put shortest, it even takes me down some dodgy roads, but fastest usually picks main roads.

tomtomfree used to do a bridge database but it seems down at the moment.
