Default TomTom 510 Mounting (Excitement)!

Hi! I'm new here, about to purchase in-car SatNav!

Does anyone know whether the new TomTom 510 can be mounted to the front side quarter glass of the Ford C-Max?

Tried my brother's TomTom 300 which fitted in this position okay providing, of course, the suction mount avoided the black obscure 'pimples' around the glass edge!

The TomTom website pics seem to suggest that the differently designed 510, 710 and 910 brackets are more compact or shorter!

With car windscreens getting ever further away from the driver, after market SatNav designers will have to produce ever more ingenious and versatile methods of vibration free mountings for them!

Thanks, in anticipation

I don't think so!

Just been told by TomTom that the new design brackets for the 510 - 910 are half the length of the 300 - 700 series!

Almost certainly then the 510 will not be suitable for mounting as I would have preferred . . . seems a retrograde step to me considering that, if fixed on the lower centre windscreen it would be a long reach to touch, let alone see clearly?

I fear the possible requirement for a more solid support, partly because of the rather heavy unit has taken priority over practicality and safety!

TomTom suggest I call into a dealer and ask to check it out . . . Halford's for me tomorrow!

The mounts are adustable in all directions, so yes you should be able to mount as you described.

Only risk is should someone lean in the window and grab it - less hastle for a thief!

OR, use the included sticky suction mount, which would stick to the dash, then the sucker would attach to that. But you need smooth dash plastic, and it must be flat to stick properly.

Remember, the unit will be set at around 70-80 degrees from the side window and has to project out past the 'sizeable' A-Pillar trim moulding - I doubt it will work . . . even with the longer 300 - 700 series mount there was not much of a margin!
