Default Advice on purchasing PDA based GPS system

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a PDA based GPS system, ideally an all-in-one item (no wires, or additional equipment).

I would like a PDA so I can connect to the internet and receive and send emails, and all the normal Office applications.

I would like advice on which systems are the best, i.e. best reviews and value for money. I would like ot be able to use it in the car and also for walking around.

Also ideally get traffic updates - but not sure the price for this type of service.

If you could explain how using the internet works with the PDA that would be great, do you have to subscribe i.e. like mobile phones etc.

Again thanks in advance.

Well you can use WiFi if your device supports it. Whilst there are free locations, for the most part you'll need a sub account or PAYG voucher with someone such as BT Openzone.

You could also use bluetooth and use your mobile as a modem. Be warned, this can become a very costly exercise depending on your network charges for data per mb.

Problem is, you won't get BT, Wi-Fi AND GPS in one unit. Where you can, you'll be paying more than the seperate components.

Best bet, get a PDA with BT and WiFi, and buy a BT GPS receiver. You should be able to get a good PDA spec, and a GPS package such as TomTom for £300-£400.

Look at the main www.totalpda.co.uk site for their deals, or contact one of their staff who posts on the forums (Martin & Charlie etc) to customise a package for you based on your needs & Budget.

There are a few that have bluetooth GPS and Wifi buit in.

The 6915 is one of them and its also a phone so it means you get everything in one unit although it is at the top end of the market.

You could go for something like this.
http://www.totalpda.co.uk/TomTom-Blu...d-Car-Kit.aspx
Which would get a good pda and the full tomtom kit for less than the price of the 6915 itself. The tomtom bluetooth receiver is about the size a cigarette lighter so its very easy to carry around.

You can get internet on a pda either via Wifi in a hotspot or by connecting to your mobile using blueooth and surfing using GPRS. Different networks charge different rates for GPRS.

Tomtom let you sign up for traffic info and would use GPRS as well.

Give me a call if you want to go over anything there are quite a few more options for you.

I think ASUS is offering best solution for PDA with BT, GPS and Wi-Fi connections.
Right now I do not know the specifications, but I think that it costs here in macedonia (Serbia) around 370 Euros.
Also have integrated SDIO slot
