Wink slow starting of gps rx

I have a bt 77 bluetooth receiver and an ipaq rc3715 bluetooth pda
the unit does connect up and is working ok but it takes up 15 minutes before the pda tomtotm softwarte finds a valid signal
is there somethink i need to do to make it pick up quicker it is a bit of a pain because i need to switch it all on about 15 mins or so before i go out because it is not picking up a sat quick enough is this normal

where are you turning it on? inside/outside? Does you vehicle have a heated or reflective screen?

Try turing the receiver and TT on outside with clear line of sight to the sky. Most GPS should find a signal and obtain a lock in 45secs or less under clear sky conditions.

Yes i have a heated front windscreen it also happens when in the house does this mean that i will need an external antenna?

If you get a lock outside the vehicle first, you should get a pretty instant lock.

Inside a building you are getting bounced signals, known as the urban jungle effect. Bit like when travelling between tall building such as I do alot in London. This is sat-nav users' nightmare for keeping/getting locks and position accuracy.

one other point of note i have it configured to other cable nmea gps what is the best baud rate to use?

Try 4800 or 9600. You should be fine on 9600, if not and experience issues drop to 4800.
