tom tom 300 what maps do i need

Hi I have to travel from the UK to Italy. At the moment I have a tom tom 300 with 1GB sd card of UK map.
Can I just buy an additional map of Italy or do i need to but all the maps off europe for this journey?
Also can i copy and paste the maps on one sd card only or do i need to swap cards for every country i visit?

You could just download the Italy map from TomTom but consider whether you may at a later date need another e.g. France or Spain, because if you do it is just as cheap to purchase the Maps of Western Europe inc GB.

The maps come e.g. Italy and Italy plus. The plus maps have the major roads of Europe. So if you load the Italy plus map and select it before departure,you can enter your destination and be guided over the major roads of Europe through GB and France and on arrival at the Italian border have street level without switching maps.

Your 1GB card should be OK. To give you an example I have the GB map + postcodes, London congestion charge zone warnings, safety cameras, and the France plus map. That comes to 462MB.

the new tomtom v6 has a complete europe map which fits on a 1gig card, one map for all

dont know if your go can be updated to v6 but it could be worth checking.

I am running tomtom v6 with the whole of europe map on my PDA and all fits on a 1 gig card, this is down to street level too for all countries.

i believe the larger and later Go units have version 6 installed

But if you dont want to go thid route as mentioned the plus map will be ideal.
