What does this mean?

Hi all, when connecting my mobile to my laptop, after sync. has happened I get this message on the mobile that says 'Pocket PC Networking - Cannot obtain a server assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an ip address in networking settings'. Does anyone know why this message comes up and if so how can I make te most if it as I always close the message. Mobile has wm6 connecting to a laptop using vista.
