Default car charger

i have a ipaq with tomtom nav.. it al came with in car ciggie lighter, however.. i put it in and it didn't work.. opened the fuse on the charger and it had blown.. changed it for same grade fuse.. that blew.. gradually up'ed the fuse rating til it stopped blowing... around 20amps - instead it started smoking!!

any one else had similar problem?

i didn't want to hard wire the power in, but looks like i'll have to!

Never had that problem before...beware if you hard wire you may encounter the same problem because you will have to fuse the cable supplying the power.

there was a wire for thisd purpose included with the tomtom car kit, saying to wire to the stereo or back of cig lighter (from what i can remember) - no mention of fusing it!

pressumably the stereo line feed would be fused anyway ??

It depends on the model of car...but I wouldnt hurt to add another fuse for security.

Take heart matey, I had exactly the same problem. I immediately was on the phone to Tomtom who directed me to their repair.tomtom.com webpage that allowed me to return the faulty car ciggie charger via RMA. Their respone was fantastic within 2-3 days I had a brand new one via DHL. Mine had gone kapput within 2 weeks of purchasing & using in the car. This was in Nov '03. The new one hasn't gone AWOL so far (touch wood!). At that time I had to spend the mine from my pocket to get it replaced. But now Tomtom offers free DHL pickup from ur home/ workplace & deleivery too.

Yeah that DHL pickup is a nice touch to the service.
