Default Acer c530 - Charging Via USB

Hi
Have an Acer C530. Charges OK via Mains Charger and 12v Car Charger.

Supposed to charge via USB but not able to do successfully. Even with a battery adapter ( 4AA Batteries with standard USB Plug) and the USB to Mini USB cable, still can't seem to get a supply through to PDA. Has anybody ben able to get USB cable to charge? Or any ideas why it won't work?

Thanks
Ian

Have you enabled USB charging on the device?

Yes, I have enabled USB charging. I have done some more testing and have managed to get a charge coming from the front USB of my PC.(The one I tried before was powered hub - I think it's USB2) I bought a battery extender to try and have a long use when out and about. I checked the connections and getting just over 6 volts on the outside pins of the outlet plug. But when it is plugged into the PDA using the same cable which worked OK on the pc-PDA link, it does not charge.
The AC 5v 1000mA. Not sure how many Ma the battery ouputs.

Sounds like your battery pack is either supplying to much to too little power for the device to charge.

I recommend the proporta emergency chargers. Have one myself, and can charge almost anything!

Hi - so will the PDA not accept charge if the battery extender voltage is too high? I think it is about 6.3 volts and PDA is 5v

The charging circuit is on the device (like many mobiles and PDAs these days), and li-on batteries have voltage protection as well as over temp cut out.

It is a possibility that the device is stopping the charge due to incorrect voltage. I'd contact the charger manufacturer. Who is it out of interest?

This is what I have, and use on my Ipaq, Nokia and ipod without issues. Buy Proporta USB Mobile Device Charger (USB Rechargeable Battery) - Total PDA

The battery extender has no name - it just is a 4 aa battery holder with an output lead with standard USB plug - so just puts out voltage direct - no electronics inside. I'll try and return it - was only a fiver with a retractable usb cable / mini connector.
Thanks for your comments
