Default connecting to the internet with PDA

hi All

i need some advice on how and what i need to connect to the internet using a PDA.
we currently use the PDA for business purposes, and we have an application which uploads data to our website, but this is done over a dial up connection using 56k compact flash card.
we seem to experience a vast amount of problems sending data using the dial up connection which range from failing to connect, or when connected failing to upload the data.
when we run the same process using a wifi connection we do not encounter any of these problems.
the other problem we encounter is that we need the data to be uploaded while the member of staff is out, but as a phone line is not available we usually have to wait until they return home.
we use dell axim x51v and hp ipaq hx2490 and need the wireless internet access for around 50 odd devices. my questions are as follows
1. is there a way i can connect these device to some other form of wireless internet (not wifi); what will i need to acheive this for every PDA.
2. with regards to 3g/gprs is there a way to sign up to an account which only bills you for data used on a pay as you go basis instead if getting tied into a year contract.

thanks in advance
shakeel

You could connect them to a bluetooth phone and use your network to connect.

I dont think any of the networks let you do PAYG for data. From what you say you would probably be cheaper on a data contract anyway.
