Default bluetooth gps problem

I have an ipaq HX4700 and have just bought a Holox 66m gps reciever. I have Tomtom software and have no problem linking up to the gps reciever, (the black and yellow disk spins constantly no problem) but the position and time data does not update constantly, ie the time will count up for a while, then freeze for anything from 2 seconds up to a minute or more.
This problem is not confined to tomtom, as I tried a piece of gps software which has a large clock dial which sticks and jumps forward.
I dont know if its the reciever or the pda, any ideas?

It could be either unit. Do you know anyone else with a receiver you could test your PDA with?

I'd get in touch with whoever sold you the Holox.
