Unhappy Compaq 3630

I have just got hold of a pda, to try and see if it may be useful at work.

I am trying to download a spreadsheet I have created on my desktop to my PDA, but am having trouble connecting the 2 items.

The pda didn't come with any software, so I down loaded active sync, and I am trying to connect via a serial cradle.

No joy, is it something stupid I am doing or do I have to alter the connection rate or something.

Please could somebody help?

Welcome to our forums.
We need to know a little more information.
What PDA is it? Does it work? What spec of PC are you trying to connect it to?

The Pda is a compaq 3630.

Yes it works ok. All functions seem to be operating ok. I think it is the standard spec 32mb etc.

I am using a Dell pc, running XP, and a 2.4 ghz processor.

Is there anything else you need to know ?

Cheers

what version of activesync have you downloaded?
do you have any firewalls running?
Right click on my computer, properties, hardware, device manager, is there anything listed under unkown devices?

Thumbs up

what version of activesync have you downloaded?

3.8, the latest version

do you have any firewalls running?

Not to my knowledge.

Right click on my computer, properties, hardware, device manager, is there anything listed under unkown devices?

Checked to see on "my computer" when I loaded active sync, and it said there was an external device, but it still didn't connect.

Unfortunately I am not at home at the moment so can't really check for firewalls or device manager ?

Thanks for helping though.

I just realised you said what PDA you have in the thread title...sorry about that.
If you have Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed then you will have a firewall..you can check these things when you get home and let us know.

Hi

Well got home, and the person I got the pda from gave me some software that they had thought they had lost, and when it had finally gone through an introduction, the pda connected. so all is well that ends well.

Unfortunately the spreadsheet I wanted to view with the machine is not very user friendly with the size of the device, never mind, I am sure that it will make a good paper weight.

Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi, Got it all working, but the battery now seems to be KO'd, tried your site bu tno batteries for the 3630.

Looked at ebay, and there are 2 I think, one seems to be in a plastic cover like the protective casing on the pda and another one seems to be like an internal battery.

To get to this is it a matter of undoing the 4 torqs screws on the back, and will this effect the memory at all ?

Cheers

if you open it you will likely lose and data that you have input to the PDA since you got although the operating system and all it's programs will be intact as they are stored in ROM.

Thanks, do you supply the batteries, or would I have to get it somewhere else ?

Also could you give me some info on, extra memory, SD cards, perhaps. Do I have to get a different expansion jacket ?
