Default Death in the family?!? (iPAQ reset issue)

My iPAQ 1710 has become invaluable to me over the past two or three months since purchasing it from www.totalpda.co.uk. Generally I've been delighted.

Today I've found I can't switch it on, the screen just remains blank/black when the power button is pressed. I've tried to do a soft reset and this doesn't do anything, although a couple of times I tried it the reset screen appeared for a short while but nothing happend.

I was about to try a hard reset but then looked at Outlook on my PC only to find that for some reason ActiveSync hasn't been updating my diary appointments - which are essential and to loose them would be a disaster. Also as the unit came from TPDA with TomTom installed (the main reason I purchased it) I am now uncertain if I can reinstall everything and return to normal if a hard reset is attempted.

Can anyone help me!?!?!

Nial

Welcome to our forums.
The first thing to try is connect the charger directly to the bottom of the iPAQ using the dongle that came with it and plug it into the mains. Leave for about 20 - 30 minutes then press the the reset button a few times to see if it boots up. If not you'll need to call 0870 842 2339 and select option 1, 3 and then 6 to speak with HPs handheld support team to get ot repaired.
