Post Which Handheld/Software/Plug-ins

I currently have a an old Palm M500, boring black and white, with no plug-ins, and have used it to get my email (via infrared) etc. Nothing exciting.

However, I now want to go into the 21st century, but not spend too much money; but have a few nice things - I know this is probably going to be too much to ask, but it's work trying!

My Requirements:
- handheld (whatever make) that has the usual email, document viewing etc.
- navigation software, linked in with something GPS, that I can put in my car and act as a sort of SatNav (it must be cheaper than the £2k a Satnav system is!)....

And that's about it! My phone has bluetooth or infrared, so either is OK.

Can anyone make any suggestions?
Which handheld, gps plug-in and software?

Thanks
Nunners

Hi Nunners,
As you are used to the palm operating system, the new Tomtom for the Tungsten T3 might be a good option for you. have a look at the link below:
http://www.totalpda.co.uk/product4635_26.aspx
This kit is also available in Bluetooth for just £50 more.
The Screen on the T3 is excellent - our Demos's are well worth viewing!
Alternatively we do have a number of systems that run on Pocket PC operating systems but Bluetooth is better on Palms.
If you have any further questions or want more info on PocketPC systems, don't hesitate to contact me!

Thanks for the reply, just having a look, and checking with the bank manager!

Noticed you said Bluetooth is better on Palms - I'm just wondering why?

Thanks
Nunners

Palms are single tasking operating system and they rarely drop the Bluetooth connection, compared to the PPC are multi tasking and can require regular soft resets. Just for your infomation the Palm Tomtom Kits have just come into stock! If you want to go ahead with an order - give me a call!

Nunners,
For your information I have used Tomtom on The T3 at the weekend, Fantastic, definately the best GPS I've used yet! I really am impressed. Plug n Play worked perfectly, no extra's to buy, and so much easier to find an address - it allows you to use post codes, ie. g51 4** will bring up all streets in that postcode.
The Bluetooth connection did not drop once in a 5 hour journey and time to fix was no longer than 20 seconds. The battery in the receiver lasted about 7 hours without charging, although if you wanted to charge it, appropriate cabling is provided for hardwiring the kit or charging though the moulded car mount - again a perfect fit for the T3 with a large suction cup which swivels and tilts!
Calculating routes took just seconds and the alternative route option saved me sitting in traffic which wasn't moving due to an accident - it got me home before everybody else!
Over all a thumbs up, to date I can't fault it!
