Default SD Card

First post!! Thinking of buying HP iPAQ 2110 bundle with Tom Tom 5. Main uses will be diary synchronisation with outlook appointments and, of course, sat nav when out and about. Probably will use word and notes a bit, but not much else. I probably won't subscribe to the TT plus service. The bumf says that maps and programs come pre-installed on a SD card "so you just pop it in go online to activate the software and thats it, away you go!" My question is why am I then being asked to pay extra, perhaps in the region of £40 or so for an SD card. Is that really necessary, or am I going to find that I don't have enough memory to enable the device to function satisfactorily without buying more memory ?

Welcome to our forums.
Your system with come with a card that is large enough to hold the full UK map. If you plan on adding anything else to the system, such as more maps or maybe music and video files, then you will need a larger card. The device will work perfectly well out of the box...a larger card is just preparing for your future requirements.

Thanks Charlie. So I can buy an SD card in the future as and when I need it. Incidentally, the TomTom 5 has UK and Europe maps I think. Is that right? If so, should that still work from the box?

The tomtom will come with the UK map installed on the SD card in the box. This will fit on a 128mb card. If you want to add any map or change to Great Britain Plus map (which is a detailed map of the UK and mayor roads of Europe) then you will need a bigger SD card.

Sorry for being dense. The spec says " Latest Up-to-Date Maps from teleatlas updated November 2003". So what are these "Great Britain Plus" maps? How much more detailed are they? Is the basic map going to have all the highways and biways of the land in it?

Now seen the answer in another thread. The GB Plus map is apparently the same is the GB map wiht the addition of major road in Europe so if I don't go to Europe I will do just fine with the GB map.
