Default TomTom carkit problem

Hiya,

I have just recently purchased three Compaq 3950's for my company and three TomTom carkits (the new improved version...so i'm told) and they have proceeded to damage the pins on all three of my PDA's, rendering them useless...Has anyone else had any similar problems?

I would really appreciate it if you could let me know, as you can imagine quite a bit of cash has been outlayed and i have nothing but three broken pda's to show for it.

Hope to hear from someone who has the same problem( although my sympathies if you have).

Cheers

GMan

Default Tom Tom Car Kit

Have had similar problem with my IPAQ3950 also. It seems that the connection on the bottom of the cradle is a wee bit to snug. If the pins in the slot on the IPAQ are not dead centre, the cradle pushs the pins on the IPAQ to the side when you push it in.

Also be aware that the GPS connector cable does not fit every GPS receiver. It is only dedicated for Tom Tom GPS receivers.

There have been a few problems reported to us concerning the tomtom car kits. The most important thing to remember is that if the PDA is not going to fit in the holder, then dont apply force, as this will end up breaking the PDA.

Same problem exists for TomTom Car kit for O2 XDAs. You need to manully line them up but it can cause an expensive damage if the connector gets damaged. It will costs more on XDA as the connector is soldered to the motherboard.

I used to had the same problem when is used the TomTom carkit, but now i've bought the Carcomm Carkit which was reviewed recently on http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/carcomm.php
They use the original connector for the iPAQ and not the plastic one which is in the tomtom carkit and now i don't have these problems anymore.

Maybe you should try that one instead of the TomTom, i certainly saved me a lot of trouble.

I have the same problem with the car kit I've just bought. Does anyone have a fix for this? Wish I'd read this forum first; I would have avoided buying this kit had I known.
