Question Which PDA

I am presently running a TTG 300 inconjuction with a Panasonic X70.

I use the Panasonic as a modem to download the PLus service from TT. With this service I can get the traffic, weather & the downloads. I use the Panasonic to access the WAP service, which I feel is very slow to use and also very basic in its content.

Being HGV driver on long distance I would like to get access to the internet, for information + general browsing, but having asked around it seems the only way to do thei is via an all singing laptop and a Vodaphone wireless card, all for £25.00 per month for the card, and £500.00 plus for the fancy laptop. I would also like to be able to play video and access files.

can anyone out there tell me of a cost effective way to get internet access using the minimum of equipment? can I get Internet access using a PDA, without having to go to a Hotspot. Or am I going to have to settle for WAP.

Being long distance I can not always choose my overnight location, so therefore I would like to be able to access the internet no matter what my location.

Any of the PDA's with bluetooth would be able to access the net via GPRS on your phone. If you go for one with wifi as well then you will have quicker access if you can get to a wifi hotspot. I know there are quite a few service areas that are rolling out wifi access so this might become more of a benefit in the future but as long as you have bluetooth you will be able to access the net pretty much anywhere you can get a phone signal.

I would recommend these models
Bluetooth

Bluetooth + wifi

You could even go for a pda with phone built in.

If you give me a call I can go over the differences for you.

Dear martin

many thanks for your reply.

apols for my slow reply to u, but am away most of the week.

Only one reservation, am I going to get WAP or can I get full internet browsing, using a PDA inconjuction with my mobile. Also if its WAP, I presume that I will just carry on buying WAP bundles from my network provider. Or if its full internet service how will I be charged, & who provides the service.

The WAP bundle you get is basically a GPRS bundle. With the PDA you get full internet access you use GPRS to download the data. If you have a bundle you should be receiving a specific amount of data each month.
Generally even if you use more than your monthly allocation you only pay for what you donwload on top of that i.e. so many pence per Mb. Different networks have different deals for GPRS.
