Default PDA as multi remote control?

Is it possible to use the IR function on a PDA to control TV/Sattelite/HiFi etc.? I have heard there is software available but not where to get it and also is the IR strong enough from a PDA to work these devices from across an average sized room (someone mentioned an IR booster to me??). Thanks in advance.

Dougalzeb what you are looking for is a PDA with Nevo, that is the program that allows you to use the PDA as a remote control.

I had a friend that bought a pda that could do that, and after watching him mess around with it we both said WHY when the real programmable remote was sitting on his coffee table....Fun to play with if you like gadgets but not very efficient when you can go out and buy a real programmable remote that will work just about everything in the house...

Just my opinion....
