Dell's are quite good - owned an X5. http://www.totalpda.co.uk/Dell-Axim-X50-520Mhz-PDA.aspx

Or there's the slightly lower processor for £159 +vat.

Have a look at the Mio 168, around £175 will do exactly what you want. You have the added advantage that it has a built in GPS receiver so if at a later date you fancy having a Sat Nav, all you'd need to do is buy the software and maps.

There is also the Mio A201 but this is over your budget.

The Mio 168 seems to be a good machine from the amount of users (esp for the price), BUT it doesn't have BT or Wi-Fi and also has no way to upgrade if you wish to use these features at a later date.

Although you are getting in-built GPS as a trade off, I always think future proofing your connectivity needs/options should be high on any shopping list.

These PDA's would do what you are looking for.

The Tx and the Dell are the best of the four above but all them will fit the requirements you mentioned. You may find the 1710 a bit limited if you start using the pda more often. The 1950 has Wifi so if you have a wifi network at home or at the office it can link up to that. The X51 has bluetooth so it can link to a mobile phone. The Tx has both wifi and blueooth.

Hi Guys,

i think ive narrowed it down to either the Palm Tungsten TX or Dell X51 416MHz. I want to be able to use the calender on both the PDA and home PC, is that possible? And do they update then when i sync?!

Also does either have handwriting recognition?

Sorry about the questions!

Many thanks for all your help guys!

I've only used windows based devices, so can confirm the Dell will do all that.

Yes they can both sync with more than one PC and both have handwriting recognition. If you give me a call on the number below when you want to order I can go the differences in a bit more detail for you.

I think i'm pretty much sold on the TX - certainly seems good value for money. A couple of questions however:

How good is the Excel compatibility - I fill in an expenses spreadsheet which has various calculations/drop downs etc. Will this work in the palm and then transfer back.

What are peoples views on the longevity of the palm - are they going to continue supporting the Palm in its current format or are they planning to move to windows? (i'm a long time palm user).

Any particular areas people would raise as being a concern for someone who opts for the Palm?

Documents to go Excel compatability was always better than Pocket Excel although I think the 2005 verion of pocket Excel brings it up to scratch. You shouldnt have any problems with the calculations or drop downs. I think there is even a premium version of docs to go availble for about $25.

At the moment the only palm running windows in the treo 700.
